Poppy’s partner’s Tom’s band are playing the Sebright Arms
again and we saw them at Ramsay’s 60th in January I meet Simon and
Jules at the pub along with the pub quiz patrons. Pete has bailed as too busy
but he doesn’t like doing the same thing twice anyway apparently. Down in the
small cellar we catch most of Fourmarks who are an enjoyable enough
group of musicians who look like they’ve been around the block, at least a
block, and regale us with a twist on indie rap that has a few people dancing
and nodding. They grow on me and they have an interesting sound though maybe
need to hone in a bit sharper? (I since find out it’s their debut so full marks
sounding as sharp as they do.) I happen
to be stood next to Tom so we have a quick chat but once Fourmarks are off Tom’s
got work to do. After another half upstairs we come down again as Koyo
are already on stage. The trio are great musicians with Tom on drums holding a
great beat with a lot of variety from near thrash to jazzy leanings. The
bassist keeps a great rhythm and at times takes the lead. And the guitarist and
main vocalist plays along with that envious nonchalance that only very talented
guitarists can pull off. Great musicians and a great sound. The songs vary
between the harder edge of indie through out and out rocking with a hearty does
of psychedelia throughout. The vocals are great too. They go down very well but
unfortunately quite a few who were watching Fourmarks have left the cellar
which unfortunately is the way for gigs in London. Obviously their mates who
only came for them rather than all going home early. More fool them. After Koyo
finish we sat goodbye to Tom who I’ll see again in a couple of months and then
us 3 say goodbye as they cycle home and I walk to the tube.
