Arrive in Leicester station where Bruce greets us at the ticket barrier with Christine rather than down Crack Alley then drives us back to his. As Debbie has just come off a night shift she relaxes whilst Bruce, Christine and I go for a walk up Bradgate Park and take arty photos in the shadows. Evening meal courtesy of Christine which is lovely then we huddle round the laptop to watch the fairly tedious Boiling Point. I was alone in that opinion. Hair cut takes up the next morning before a brisk walk around the Birstall wetlands with a stop off at the Hopeless Wanker canal side pub at the far end. A quick change and we are off to meet Shaun, Mike and mate at the de Montfort Hall for Paul Weller. It's full of ageing ex punks and mods but a few show a bit of style such as Bruce in his mod suit. Paul and the band, including Ocean Colour Scene's guitarist, play a great set which traverses 40 odd years. It showcases Weller's variety from modish punk, well, we didn't get any of the harder early songs, through soul and blues. A bit of hard rock thrown in and to be honest he was surprisingly edgy and still has the attitude of the 1970s. Could have been a bit more funkiness but all the songs were danceable and the crowd grooved on down having a great time. Highlight was just as I was thinking he's not gonna play it he says that the next song has about 30 verses so sing if you know any of them and launches into That's Entertainment. I don't know why but I love this song real hairs on the neck stuff. Well, would have been if Bruce hadn't had shaved them all off earlier. Well satisfied we applaud the bowing band and having found Bruce and Christine although lost the others we head back across Victoria Park to the car. A great night. Next day after faffing Bruce drives us to the station for goodbyes and see ya soon. A great weekend.
