A bloke called Dave

As my daughter can't get into Koko without an adult being as she's 15, allegedly, not allegedly 15 but allegedly she can't get in without an adult, then I have a ticket too. Well, I did catch him at Glastonbury and a great set it was too. If a little on the young side in the audience. And on stage. Anyway she goes down with friends at 5pm and I say I'll see her at 7 when the doors open as she wants to get to the front of the stage. I say she could waltz in at 8.30 and she'll be fine but kids think that they know best don't they. I saunter down to Mornington Crescent at 7 and would you believe it but she's right and there's a queue all the way up Camden High Street. Some have been here since 3.30 apparently. Madness! They all look about 15 and I feel a bit freaky wandering up the queue peering at kids trying to find Lily-Rose. I hand over the 3 tickets and say call me when you are at the barriers and I'll come over and join you. Retreat to pub. Call about 8 to meet kids but before I get there she calls to say they got in by just saying they're 16. Damn. My cunning queue jumping ploy is foiled. Queue still crazy. Retreat to pub. 8.45 I decide to join the by now fairly reasonable queue as The Pride of Streatham is on at 9. Get in just as he starts at 9.10. I checked me watch. He plays a great set ranging from hard rap to grime to a more intellectual story telling vibe. It's great that some one is talking to kids about politics and how to treat girls right and what's wrong with their lives. Better than the usual current rap crap about fast cars fast women and cash. I didn't bother to take a photo as everyone, and I mean everyone, in the place seemed to film the whole damn set. Including all those in the mosh pit where I rightly assume Lily-Rose and her mates are. So I've missed the support that is Avelino but I do see guest appearances on stage with Dave by AJ Tracey and then Thiago Silva. Apparently it was them. The kids seemed to like it as they were screaming in a way that I've not heard since I saw The Cure in Oxford back in 1984. Why The Cure attracted screaming teenies god only knows and I sort of feel the same about Dave. He hardly encouraged it. Anyways the kids loved it and with the usual no encore we pile out into the cool Camden air. I meet Lily-Rose at Balham tube and at least we spend some quality time together on the way home. A good night. Maybe I'll wait until he's a bit older before I see him again.
