Autolux

As my regular readers will know, OK, reader, I like to give a bit of context to the night aka pad out my limited reviews with travel information. Skip this paragraph if you want to get to the music. Journey up to Tufnell Park was OK for me so I won't tell you Shaun's woes. Get to one of the dwindling number of old school Irish pubs that is the Boston Arms buying a Guinness, when in Rome, and settle down at the bar to see the end of the first half of Ireland (Republic of,) vs Sweden. Entertaining and not missed any goals. Early in the 2nd half Hoolahan and the lead looks promising until late on when the Irish score a brilliant own goal. Well would've been brilliant at the other end. Soon after Shaun arrives and introduces me to John so another round bought and we agree to go eat after this one. Then Pete arrives so would be rude not buy a round when arriving and by the time we think about food again it's time to go see the band who are playing in the Dome upstairs to the pub.

First up is the oddly named ADSL Camels who is one bloke on the computer which isn't even branded as cider fruit. Either got no money or a bit of a rebel. The electronic fare is fair enough but as Shaun said with a drummer behind and a bit of vocals he could be on to something. By this time the effects of stout and red stripe and lack of food are kicking in and so my memory of the headliners coupled with not being that knowledgeable with their music will lead to a brief and probably inaccurate review. But aren't they all.

Autolux are a trio with a woman drummer who takes some vocals duties and a couple of blokes on guitars and / or keyboards. They deliver a cracking set leading from west coast shoegazing riffing towards a crescendo of danceable, well, I was but not many others were, heavy, hold on are we nearly headbanging or is it just me rockness. Thoroughly enjoyable. That's the lot for the review. Go look online for set lists and notes taken by a proper blogger during the evening. My memory of the gig was pretty bad on the tube home and this is 5 days later. We go into the pub after for one for the road but remember last time I did that up this way and missed the tube and did take the road by bus home. So's Pete and I say farewell to Shaun and John and hit the Northern Line. Great gig. Cheers Shaun. See you for some hill climbing in the Peaks maybe...
