Horrors
Camden Roudhouse. Queues for bar and loos and newly renovated. Sort it out! Simon Nick and me venture north west just in time for TOY who start as a sort of Stranglers Hawkwind cross. Sounds like they should be great but aren't. Not edgy enough despite hairy bassist and rocking guitarist. Think Nick said there's too much wigging out. Can't have been very good as spent most of the set discussing the mixing desk knob twiddler. Soon enough THE HORRORS come on and build the set up with a variety of tunes from clubby to dirty rock. Gets the feet going tho not enough to join the jumping throng down front. Well, not a throng as such but a fair few. Really hot in here (another problem with the place) so move out for a wander round just before the encore and go stage left where there's more space with people dancing but the sound is truly abyssmal. Find my friends and the set climaxes in a long dance laced rock number that gets me rocking out as do the band. Lets us down before building up again and then they're off leaving me gasping for more. Great way to end the show and maybe Toy will take tips on the difference between wigging out and rocking out. Horrors much closer to Hawkwind tho they probably wouldn't like that. Stumble out into the warm north London night sweaty and with ears ringing, must've been a good one...
