My first week back at WORK after a number of months Back in the DHSS. (strictly I’ve just finished my second week but only just had time to write this). First time in the chariddy sector so a lot to learn about how things operate but also a lot in common with my commercial experience (so I said at the interview). Lovely folk I work with all very welcoming. Bit scary on the Monday morning (will I remember how to work) but by the end of the day back in the swing. Lots to do and loads to read but loving it!
Saturday evening off to Hootenanny with Si & Jules (after local eco action group kiddies fireworks and bonfire) for some eclectic bands. Si & I continually failed to understand J’s order to include lemonade (or was it soda?!) and I think the bar staff understood our dilemma and put copious amount of lime and ZEST in all our drinks to cover up our stupidity. Didn’t work. So the bands, hazy mainly. There was a young lass who stripped down to go go dancer attire (i.e. not much except stars on the nipples) but the main band were a great gypsy ska band who got everyone jumping. Great stuff… then home on the speed restricted trusty iron steed.
Sunday off to the home of football – Ashburton Grove aka The Emirites aka New Arsenal Stadium. Home game against Newcastle. 3 points in the bag. Why did I spend all that dosh on a ticket for an inevitable result? We start brightly and have all the possession. Loads of corners – all wasted as usual with no one big and ugly in the box. Same old Arsenal unable to score and won’t shoot from more than 6 inches out. Then right on half time big ugly Carroll jumps up to put the keeper off and we go in one nil down. Bejesus! At least we have 45 minutes to exert our pressure…. 10 minutes left still 1-0 and 60,000 fans are starting to PRAY. Everyone in the stadium – including the Toon Army who thought it as inevitable as us that we’d at least equalise. To no avail, Gooners were obviously naughtier than the Toon over the previous week and we go down one nil. At home. Gawd Almighty. To rub our noses in it Chelski also lose and we’d have been within spitting distance if we’d won.
Ah well. Guess that life is all about the ups and downs of yer emotions. And the bike ride home was enjoyable. Although a few more drivers got snarled at than usual.
